What is Solar panel installers ?

Solar panel installers can be ground-mounted on a piece of land, or installed on an existing rooftop. Solar PV panel systems also vary in size; ranging from small scale systems powering one home, to large scale solar farms big enough to power a small village.

What is solar?

Solar projects uses the sun’s energy in order to generate electricity. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels have become increasingly effective, and despite the great British weather, panels are able to utilize energy wherever possible.

Why chose solar power projects?

Solar makes no noise, creates no waste and emits no carbon – so we think it’s pretty great!
Fit – the ‘Feed in Tariff’ is a government initiative designed to encourage more people to invest in renewable energy. It consists of the following:

Generation Tariff – your energy supplier will pay you a set rate for each unit (or KWH) of electricity you generate. Once your system has been registered, the tariff levels are guaranteed for the period of the tariff (up to 20 years).

Export tariff -you will get a further 4.77p/KWH from your energy supplier for each unit you export back to the electricity grid, so you can sell any electricity you generate but don’t use yourself. This rate is the same for all technologies. It is estimated as being 50% of the electricity you generate.

And, then there is also your Energy Bill saving, you will be making savings on your electricity bills because generating electricity to power your appliances means you don’t have to buy as much electricity from your solar energy supplier.

All this means you could get investment returns of up to 15%

How is the electricity generated?

PV panels use the photovoltaic effect to turn the sun’s energy directly into electricity, which can supplement or replace a building’s usual supply.

The electricity PV panels generate is direct current (DC). Before it can be used in homes and businesses, it has to be changed into alternating current (AC) electricity using an inverter. The inverted current then travels from the inverter to the building’s fuse box, and from there to the appliances that need it.

How much will it cost?

The cost of a solar PV system will depend on the size of the installation. The quote provided for a system should always include design, labor, equipment etc.
As a general framework, a 4KW – 10KW system costs around £1.10 per watt. A 30KW system is around 90p per watt and systems between 50KW-250KW are approximately 80p per watt.

There is also the option to have a ‘funded system’. Installations have the option to be paid for by investors. Generally, funded systems are 30KW and over. The solar photovoltaic panel system is provided free of charge and then electricity is free for the client or negotiated to a significantly lower rate.

Whilst these figures sound initially confusing, Switch 2 Renewable is able to provide a detailed breakdown of costs and of the processes involved with every installation.

If you are looking to invest in a solar photovoltaic panel system, it is important to be clear on the costs. Whilst it may seem initially confusing, Switch 2 Renewable provides a detailed overview of equipment, labor and design costs.

If you have an existing quote which you would like clarification on, or you would like a sample quote for an installation, Switch 2 Renewable are happy to help, so do get in touch with a member of our team.
